An internship is a pivotal, exploratory experience that unveils our potential career paths or, quite frankly, helps us pinpoint the ones we're better off avoiding.

At Pathlabs, we take internships seriously. So seriously, we've established a comprehensive internship program known as the YourPath Internship.

On May 20th, five new interns joined our ranks for this program, eager to immerse themselves in everything Pathlabs and media execution.

Today, with the help of our Director of Education, let’s discuss the scope of this internship and introduce our new intern cohort.

What Is the YourPath Internship?

The YourPath Internship is one of three key programs in our proprietary training initiative, YourPath. In the spirit of Pathlabs' core value of ‘Master the Craft,’ this program aims to educate and train the finest media professionals in the industry.

Each year, applications for this paid, part-time internship open in March, with the selected interns starting their experience in May.

Internship Scope

Over three months, this new intern cohort will undergo training led by our Director of Education, focusing on Pathlabs' specific operations as a Media Execution Partner (MEP) for independent agencies.

After this training, the interns fully integrate into one of our five service pods, closing out their internship as active contributors to account management and media execution tasks for our agency partners.

But it isn’t all work and no play. Based out of our headquarters in Missoula, Montana, interns take in amazing views of the mountains and Clark Fork River, bond with office doggos, and enjoy office perks like snacks and weekly yoga sessions. Not to mention, they will make connections with our team through weekly lunches and events, including our celebrated annual company All Hands Week in July.

Kyle Kienitz on YourPath Internship Cohort

Kyle Kienitz, Pathlabs’ Director of Education, oversees the entire YourPath initiative. In fact, he just wrapped up another semester as the liaison for YourPath’s sponsored course at the University of Montana’s College of Business.

Now, Kyle is switching hats from course liaison to mentor and direct report for the YourPath interns, where he will guide them through their entire internship.

Let’s hear Kyle's thoughts about this new cohort.

After wrapping up the semester at the University of Montana, how do you feel about jumping into managing this year's interns?

Switching over is a fun and natural progression for me. So far, I have really enjoyed meeting with the interns every morning and watching them finally dig into their training. A few of the interns just participated in the YourPath course at UM, so it is great to see that they can begin applying all the knowledge they learned while the material is still fresh in their minds!

What are you most excited about for this internship cohort?

These interns have already shown incredible drive and interest in the industry and Pathlabs. I am excited to keep leveling up their knowledge in this domain.

While half the battle for these interns will be managing the deluge of information coming at them, I appreciate the hands-on design and the close collaboration I get with them. Whether things move quickly or slowly, I'm with them daily to answer questions and ensure they make the most of this experience.

What is different about this new internship cycle? Are you trying anything new, or is the internship curriculum structure changing at all?

With recent updates to our team structure and elevated responsibilities within specific roles, we’ve enhanced our training, introducing tasks and skills not previously included in our internship program.

What continually impresses me is the level of exposure and experience interns gain from the curriculum—they achieve comprehensive certifications and work with advanced ad tech platforms like The Trade Desk. Such exposure is valuable and rare so early in one’s career, providing a solid foundation for future success.

Meet the 2024 YourPath Intern Cohort

Like previous years, this year's recruitment and selection process for this intern cohort was incredibly competitive, making narrowing down a cohort of five very tough. Meet the candidates we went with.

Alex Waring

Alex hails from Denver, Colorado, and recently graduated from the University of Montana. His interest in Pathlabs and advertising was sparked by his own business ventures, where he witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of optimal search engine marketing tactics and meticulous marketing strategies.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Alex is a certified Range Safety Officer who trains civilians in effective firearm use and self-defense laws. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and any extreme sports.

Alex aims to be known as the Dependable Intern, ensuring his reliability makes him an invaluable cohort member.

Brynn Letzig

From Highlands Ranch, CO, Brynn found interest in Pathlabs due to its forward-thinking reputation and standout presence in Montana. She seeks to immerse herself in marketing, tech, and data analytics, prepared to absorb a wealth of knowledge that will aid her during her time at Pathlabs.

Brynn gravitates towards warmer weather and loves summer in Missoula, which will be perfect for this internship.

She anticipates becoming the Hungry Intern. Could this be a hunger for information, or is she just here for the free office snacks and weekly lunches? Only time will tell…

Christine Anderson

Christine, originating from Bozeman and Helena, Montana, is ready to fine-tune her toolkit and knowledge around digital media marketing—learning and applying concepts on the fly.

Outside of work and school, Christine’s sights are always set on skiing, running, camping, hiking, and traveling, which is perfectly on brand, for she hopes to be known as the Outdoorsy Granola Intern.

Marina Kashirets

Marina, from Missoula, MT, looks forward to pursuing this internship and embracing Pathlabs’ cool, people-first culture. She sees it as the perfect place to gain new experiences and further her career.

As a Ukrainian American, she is particularly interested in using her Russian language abilities to pursue international work, which she proclaims will coin her as the Ukrainian Intern

Like the rest of these interns, Marina is drawn to the Montana nature landscape. She spends her winters skiing, snowmobiling, and hot springing while filling her long summer days on the river, backpacking, or by the lake.

Luke Gates

From Glenwood Springs, CO, Luke chose Pathlabs after hearing its consistent praise from current and former employees, paired with his passion for data analysis and media.

He is eager to deepen his knowledge of digital media campaigns and values the chance to learn from seasoned professionals.

An avid outdoorsman who enjoys both summer and winter activities, Luke also relishes live music, maintains a regular fitness routine as a former personal trainer, and loves to travel.

Luke aims to be the Social Intern, dedicated to fostering camaraderie wherever he goes.
